Embrace Nature In This Hallandale Beach Home

Building and development run in Sarah Zohar’s blood. She opened her shop, Sarah Z Designs, after her move from New York to Florida 12 years ago, but she’s been around the design business all her life. Her dad is a building and development veteran, as are her brother and husband of 23 years. Zohar’s passion for design and unique vision has made her a go-to for luxury designer residences throughout South Florida and abroad.
She embarked on the project in Hallandale after a mutual friend introduced her to the couple who purchased the home. As their primary residence, the family of four wanted to create a space for the kids and adults to enjoy together. Working with Stephen H. Brandt & Associates and R3 Construction, the redesign and remodel took about two years. As part of the project, Zohar was entrusted to work with some of the client’s furniture, and she weaved those pieces in effortlessly while elevating the home’s design.
The 4,300-square-foot waterfront home with four bedrooms, four bathrooms, gym, home office, game room, theater room and music room features an open concept main living space floor plan and soaring windows that overlook the pool, patio and water. Inspired by the outdoors, Zohar brought in nature’s palette inside with pops of blues and greens alongside organic materials.
A custom walnut wood front door opens into the cozy foyer that leads to the home’s expansive great room. The gray concrete porcelain floors create a balance with the home’s wall color: white with a slight hint of gray. A brass geometric chandelier adds light to the foyer along with the Visual Comfort black and antique brass wall sconces.
This spacious kitchen is every home chef’s dream. Radiant natural light beams in from the windows overlooking the back and side yards. Counter space is not lacking here. Thanks to its size, the room boasts not one, but two islands. One island hosts the Wolf gas range while the other features an extended sitting area with a black Cosentino countertop and caramel leather swivel stools with chrome bases.
The Italian wood veneer bases accent the islands’ white quartz countertops, which match the rest of the kitchen countertops. The same white quartz was also used for the backsplash that blends nicely with the white high gloss Italian cabinets that house the Sub-Zero appliances and the 100-bottle wine fridge.
The centerpiece of this room is the stunning decorative wall that is the backdrop for the TV and fireplace. White marble panels run alongside the rough slate stone center panel. The TV floats over the driftwood shelf that sits above the iridescent fire. A Nuevo Living glass coffee table with its architectural metal base sits on top of the client’s multi-blue hued area rug. The MODLOFT chairs, in navy and a similar caramel leather as the kitchen stools, add a pop of color to the rest of the sitting area that is finished off with a MODLOFT sectional sofa in a sustainable neutral linen weave.
In a space that leads to the outdoor patio and pool, Zohar wanted to give this room an organic feel with the wood-like Stonica porcelain continuous wall and gray pebble inlays in the shower.
Adjacent to the home’s foyer and dining room sits the billiards room. It’s a space designed not just for the kids to enjoy but a place for the entire family to entertain and have fun. The dazzling Elitis bamboo wallpaper pulls the home’s blue color palette into the space.
With an open concept home, Zohar likes to accentuate each space with a unique ceiling design. Here, the ceiling’s 20-foot height enabled her to create a modern design that is complemented with a Restoration Hardware chandelier. The sculptural piece’s brass spheres float over the client’s Artefacto driftwood table while mirroring the sculptural brass sconces that flank the Steinway & Sons baby grand.
The family enjoys watching movies and games together, so a theater room was necessary. The blue color palette is prevalent in this room with the seven blue leather reclining chairs, carpet and acoustic tiles on the back wall.
The blue marble countertop from the theater room’s bar is also found in this bathroom, and the wall’s black marble slabs further accent it along with the illuminating Arteriors light fixtures.
The flooring transitions into wood in all the bedrooms, adding a warmness to each room. This guest bedroom has a minimalistic feel to it with its MODLOFT bed with black leather frame and headboard and a silver Lumens fan. The nightstands are the client’s original pieces. Blue decorative throw pillows add a pop of color to the space.
SON’S BED & BATH
The son’s room boasts a rugged brick wallpapered wall that is decorated with a graffiti landscape. The triptych piece was custom made using an image the son chose. The blue fabric MODLOFT bed is flanked by two mid-century modern nightstands. Masculine textures continue into the bathroom with an Extreme Surfaces wood-like tile throughout and blue and gray mosaic tile inlays in the shower.
DAUGHTER’S BED & BATH
The daughter’s room has a modern feminine feel with a white brick wall, gray linen fabric bed from MODLOFT and white lacquer nightstand. The bamboo desk with chrome legs and white leather chair are the client’s original pieces.
The white minimalistic décor continues into the ensuite bathroom with white lacquered cabinets, white quartz countertop and backsplash, a Lumens chrome light fixture and Bath Trends vessel sink. A vanity nook was carved out for her with a comfortable upholstered linen stool accessorized with nailheads.
Mainly created for the parents, this home gym features a Peloton bike, treadmill and set of free weights. To add serenity, a water-inspired art piece pulls in greens and blues from the outdoors.
Inspired by the room’s water views, Zohar brought blue hues into this room in several remarkable ways. The gorgeous Phillip Jeffries grasscloth wallpaper draws the eye into the space, but what sits behind it is an unrivaled feature. A concealed door cut into the wall leads into a hidden walk-in closet, one of two closets in the bedroom.
A Havertys light gray linen bed with its decorative blue throw pillows and a grey velvet bench with an acrylic base sit on top of the client’s blue and gray area rug. The client’s gray wood, glass and chrome nightstands with glass cylinder lamps rest on either side.
In the master bath, a Kardiel freestanding modern tub sits by the window as the Opustone Opal White stone floor merges into the room’s walls. A glass wall encloses the shower that features a shimmering pearlized black glass mosaic from Extreme Surfaces and a mini mosaic Opustone floor.
OUTDOOR POOL DECK & PATIO
An outdoor kitchen, dining area and lounge, complete with a fire pit, overlook the pool and calming water. Similar to the front of the home, the outdoor columns are wrapped in Opustone. By extending a similar grey flooring into the back patio, Zohar created a continuous living area for the home that doesn’t end at the interior windows, but brings the indoors out to the patio and beyond.
