The Faces of Fort Lauderdale

Lisa Scott-Founds | Dawn Read, & Kathy Keleher, Winterfest, Inc.

Synonymous with the holiday season in South Florida, Winterfest produces the largest one-day spectator event in Florida and the 7th largest in the country; The Seminole Hard Rock Winterfest Boat Parade. Bedazzled boats and displays entertain countless viewers along the New River and up the Intracoastal. What most don’t realize is that Winterfest is much more than a one-night event, how much it benefits our city, or how a small team is responsible for steering a ship that size.

Meet Lisa, Dawn and Kathy, a powerhouse team of women who work year-round on the iconic event. The trio, who have worked together for nearly 20 years, are kept busy with events including a Family Fun Day, Grandstand Viewing, Student Art Contest and a season shattering Black-Tie Ball at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Hollywood. With a mission to promote and benefit Greater Fort Lauderdale, Winterfest brings in thousands of people, boasts one million spectators, and creates an annual economic impact of over $50 million to South Florida. It takes a village with sponsors, community partners and volunteers. Funds generated not only go to produce “The World’s Most Watched Boat Parade,” but also to support the community in various ways. As the only night of the year when all restaurants along the route are sold out, the impact on restaurants alone is staggering.

Calling it a family affair and a joy, not a job, the team keeps “The Greatest Show on H2O” sailing smoothly.
