2015 Lauderdale Air Show Canceled
For the second year in a row, the Lauderdale Air show has been grounded.
While last year’s event was canceled due to air restrictions caused by Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport's runway expansion project, this years cancelation is a result of reconstruction work on State Road A1A, the heart of its beach viewing area.
Show president Bryan Lilley expects the show to return in 2016.
"We just have to have everything going in favor of the show," Lilley told the Sun-Sentinel. "We want to make sure we're firing on all cylinders when we get started."
Since replacing the annual Air and Sea Show, which stopped five years earlier, the Lauderdale Air Show has had more than its share of bad luck since beginning in 2012.
In 2012, the show’s second day was canceled due to bad weather and in 2013, the U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds backed out shortly before the show began due to federal budget cuts.
