At Amaize In Davie, You Can Create Your Own Stuffed Arepas, From Avocado-Chicken Salad To Dulce De Leche For Dessert
A new fast-casual Latin-inspired spot is hoping to amaze its customers with a corn-focused concept. (Yes, you read that right.)
Amaize opened in Davie on Monday, Aug. 22, serving up customizable arepas, or Venezuelan corn cakes that can be eaten alone, with melted cheese sandwiched in between, or better yet, stuffed with plenty of hearty fillings.
At the new restaurant, guests can create their own arepas or cachapas (a sweeter corn variety served open-faced like a pancake), with toppings and fillings including shredded beef, chicken and pork, cheeses, veggies and more.
Amaize also offers specialty arepas, such as the Beauty Queen with avocado-chicken salad; Mechado with beef, black beans, plantains and shredded white cheese; and Caprese Latina with spinach, Guayanes cheese, tomato and green citrus-parsley-garlic guasaca sauce.
For customers not really feeling arepas, there are salads, soups, and Mechados (bowls of white rice, black beans, plantains and choice of toppings). And for those really feeling those sweet-corn cachapas, there are dessert versions with Nutella, dulce de leche, bananas, strawberries and more.
The first Amaize restaurant opened in Doral in southwestern Miami-Dade County in November 2014. Now, its owners hope to see how this second location in Davie's Tower Shops will be received by a market with a larger white American demographic (as opposed to Doral, which is predominantly Hispanic).
"By bringing it to Davie, we have the opportunity to begin to understand the behaviors of the different markets and how they will react to our authentic Latin-inspired flavors," Amaize President and CEO Karen Cohen said.
The eatery will be open for breakfast (hello, scrambled egg-stuffed arepas!), lunch and dinner, and it also features a Mercadito, or mini market, where guests can purchase items to make their own arepas at home.
Amaize plans to open 12 more restaurants in Florida throughout the next three years.
