Angelo Elia The Bakery Bar In Fort Lauderdale Will Be An Italian Pastry Shop, Gelateria And After-Dinner Drink Spot
The Angelo Elia restaurant empire is expanding with an Italian pastry shop and cafe opening in Fort Lauderdale this summer.
Chef Angelo Elia—whose group of Italian restaurants includes six Casa D' Angelo and Angelo Elia Pizza, Bar & Tapas locations around South Florida—will be adding Angelo Elia The Bakery Bar to his collection come June.
Finding his inspiration from similar cafes in Italy, Elia said for almost five years now, he's wanted to open a place reminiscent of those in Rome or Naples—where people can hang out and enjoy great food, good music and lively atmosphere.
"I think Fort Lauderdale needs a good Italian bakery. Not everybody wants to go to Starbucks all day," Elia said.
What makes this cafe most exciting, though, is the fact that it will serve more than coffee and sweets. The "bakery bar" concept means, with a liquor license, the eatery will be a fun spot to grab after-dinner drinks. Wine, champagne and Italian liquors such as grappa will all be offered.
"It's an all-day affair," he said.
The Bakery Bar will serve sandwiches, quiches and frittatas, alongside Italian pastries, such as homemade cannoli, panna cotta, Italian croissants and other baked goods. There will also be house-made gelato, as well as different types of espresso, coffee granita (like shaved ice), and tea.
The counter-service restaurant will offer both indoor and outdoor seating, with an awning and tables set up outside. Though Elia says Bakery Bar's price point will be in line with any other bakery, its decor will be more upscale and modern.
From funky chairs in different colors to mosaic tile on the floor, he imagines the bakery will be a hip spot where customers can bring their computers and stay to use the WiFi as they enjoy the Italian music playing in the background.
Elia also plans to expand with a fourth Casa D' Angelo restaurant in South Miami later this summer and additional Angelo Elia Pizza, Bar & Tapas locations in Doral and Aventura after that.
