The Boarding French Wine Bar Replaces Cheese Culture On Las Olas
Gone from Las Olas Boulevard is Cheese Culture and its yellow- and white-striped awning. In its place is The Boarding, a French wine and tapas bar whose charcoal gray and black exterior gives the new eatery a sleek, updated look.
Owners Anthony Gonzalez and Mickael Perrissol, who are from France, bought the space in November and opened for business in December.
"We wanted to open quickly so that everyone here for Christmas on Las Olas could experience it," beverage director Annie O'Neill said.
The Boarding serves sandwiches ($10-$20), such as French, Italian, truffled Brie, and the Atlantique with smoked salmon; tapas plates ($15-$18.50); hot goat cheese salad, quiche, macarons and more.
O'Neill makes selections for The Boarding's extensive wine list, and guests can order charcuterie boards to accompany their wine choices, much like they were able to do at Cheese Culture.
The meaning behind the restaurant's name is threefold, O'Neill explained. Boarding refers to the restaurant's meat and cheese boards, as well as the tourists on Las Olas who will be boarding their planes or cruise ships. But there's one other thing the name implies.
"We also want you to board with us to a different destination," she said.
The new restaurant has caught many by surprise, however.
"We have those who come in absolutely shocked that it's not Cheese Culture," O'Neill said.
They notice the difference: Glittery red heels used as wine holders sit on each table for guests who order a bottle of red wine, and mini iPads are available for guests who'd like to surf the Internet while sitting at the bar.
But, according to O'Neill, Cheese Culture's former patrons are becoming The Boarding's new regulars, often leaving the eatery excited about the new Las Olas dining option.
The Boarding opens daily at 11 a.m. and welcomes late diners, as the restaurant's wine and beer license allows it to stay open as late as 2 a.m. Happy hour specials are available Monday through Friday from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.
