Broadway Blockbuster 'Hamilton' Is Coming To Fort Lauderdale's Broward Center For 2018-2019 Season

South Floridians better not throw away their shot at seeing "Hamilton" when the musical blockbuster makes a stop at the Broward Center.

The groundbreaking Broadway show will be coming to Fort Lauderdale during the Broward Center's 2018-2019 season, the venue announced Friday. The actual dates of its South Florida run have not yet been determined, according to a representative for Broadway Across America.

The news came as part of the Broward Center for the Performing Arts' announcement of its 2017-2018 season lineup, which will include other recent Broadway hits such as "A Gentleman's Guide to Love & Murder," "Waitress" and "School of Rock."

The winner of 11 Tony Awards this past summer, "Hamilton: An American Musical" tells the story of Alexander Hamilton and the Founding Fathers in the form of a hip-hop musical (among many other genres) and features an ethnically diverse cast that's supposed to reflect the American public's minority makeup today. At the peak of its run in New York City (just before playwright and lead actor Lin-Manuel Miranda left the cast), tickets to the record-breaking Broadway show averaged more than $1,500 per seat

Though information about how to purchase "Hamilton" tickets hasn't been announced yet, the Broward Center has said theatergoers can guarantee themselves tickets before they go on sale to the public by purchasing a season subscription for 2017-2018.

When auditions for roles in "Hamilton" were held in South Florida last month during an opening casting call at Florida International University in Miami, South Floridians only knew that Miami and Fort Lauderdale's performing arts centers hadn't been selected for the 2017-2018 season of the national tour. (The show will be touring in cities like Boston, Denver, Las Vegas and San Diego during that time.)

"Illustrated by the forthcoming season's extraordinary parade of award-winning musical showstoppers, we continue to be enthusiastic with the loyalty and support of our ever-growing number of season subscribers, our steadfast partners at the Broward Center, and especially all of our Broadway patrons who continue to embrace our efforts to bring the very best of Broadway to the front steps of their community,” Susie Krasja, executive vice president of Broadway Across America, said in a statement.

So why did the theater gods decide to bless Fort Lauderdale for the following season? Charlotte Vermaak, Broadway Across America rep, said it takes years of planning to determine which Broadway shows to bring to the Broward Center, as the programming team considers content and venue availability.

"They also focus on the shows that will make most sense for our Fort Lauderdale patrons," she said.

The Broward Center's complete 2017-2018 season schedule is as follows:
