Broward College and FAU Partner to Create Street Art Exhibition in Fort Lauderdale
With the intention of bringing more public art into the heart of downtown Fort Lauderdale, five artists from Broward College and Florida Atlantic University will join forces to create a free, public street art project titled “This is a Canvas.”
Broward College alumnus Luis A. Gutierrez, Broward College faculty member Tyler K. Smith, FAU faculty member Henning Haupt and FAU alumnae Charlotte Maloney and Naghmeh Goodarzi will all work together throughout the course of a year to engage with the community and provide the area with an artistic landscape.
The project’s canvas consists of a blank, 90-foot wide wall on the exterior west side of the FAU-Broward College Higher Education Complex located at 111 E. Las Olas Boulevard Building 33.
The visual art exhibition will reflect the changing identity of the city and create a connection between the artists and community.
Jonathan Morgan, liaison and adjunct professor in Broward College’s Visual and Performing Arts Department explained in a statement, “With the entire creative process on display, visitors will be able to directly interact with the artist as they are creating their masterpiece, which makes it such a unique experience.”
FAU Associate Provost Anthony Abbate also added in, " We are thrilled to work with our partners at Broward College. We remain committed to improving the quality of the urban experience downtown.”
