New Dos Caminos Menu Includes Grasshopper Guacamole And 'Fort Lauderdale Beach’s Most Expensive Taco'

Dos Caminos in Fort Lauderdale recently launched a new menu that includes healthy Mexican fare—no, that’s not an oxymoron—but two other additions seem to jump out from the rest: guacamole topped with seasoned grasshoppers and a $36 taco with filet mignon and Maine lobster.

The Chapulines guacamole with Oaxacan grasshoppers and chiles is made fresh to order (as are all other guacamole options), it's and served with a trio of salsas and corn tortilla chips.

Dos Caminos chef Ivy Stark, who has spent time living in Mexico, was inspired by the Mexican delicacy she loves to eat whenever she’s south of the border. In Mexico—the Oaxaca region especially—guacamole with Chapulines (grasshoppers) is typically served on a tortilla. And Mexico natives know it doesn't hurt to wash it down with some Mezcal.

As for that $36 taco, it is served open-faced on several handmade corn tortillas (because how else are you going to fit a 6-ounce filet and half a Maine lobster inside of a taco?) and then topped with Mexican béarnaise. Dos Caminos is calling its enormous El Presidente taco the most expensive taco on Fort Lauderdale Beach, and in case it wasn’t obvious, it does not count as one of the menu’s new healthy items.

To create the Healthy Mexican Menu, chef Stark worked with nutritionists on developing several lighter menu options that defy the typical cheese-smothered plates Americans have come to expect from Mexican restaurants.

All of the additions are SPE-certified, which means they meet enhanced nutritional standards without compromising taste.

The lighter options include:

  • Orange chipotle guacamole served with hearty cucumber slices instead of tortilla chips

  • Watermelon summer salad with pickled red onions, corn, watercress, mint and requesón cheese tossed in a honey-key lime dressing

  • Vegetable tacos with charred avocado, pattypan squash and summer squash, pinto beans, and salsa verde on quinoa tortilla

  • Salmon a la plancha with lemon-herb quinoa and a salsa of oven-roasted tomato and black olives
