Family Circle Names Weston Among 10 Best Towns For Families
One Fort Lauderdale suburb just got a lot more love.
Family Circle magazine has named Weston one of the 10 best towns for families in the nation. Other places on the list include East Grand Rapids, Michigan; Matthews, North Carolina; and Mason, Ohio. No other Florida city made the cut.
Weston—which was recently recognized as the fifth best city in Florida for young families—has the highest population of all 10 locations on the list, which appears in Family Circle's August 2015 issue. Resident Monica Socas told the publication she loves the area’s cultural diversity and wide selection of recreational activities.
“If you could imagine a place to have a family, it would be Weston,” she said.
Weston Mayor Daniel J. Stermer was excited to hear the news.
“It is gratifying to know that the [city] that we know and love is recognized nationally for the qualities that we cherish," he said. "Our hometown feel is accomplished by having fantastic parks and cultural activities that families can enjoy and exemplary service to our community at all levels."
To come up with its results, Family Circle worked with a research firm to asses 4,500 cities that had populations between 10,000 and 100,000. Of those, they looked at the 1,400 cities that had homes with median incomes between $60,000 and $110,000. The group then rated the cities on factors including affordable houses, quality schools, low crime rate and financial stability.
