Fort Lauderdale Residents Cautioned About King Tides Expected Oct. 24 Through Oct. 31

Another round of king tides is expected to affect the Fort Lauderdale area in the coming days.

Mayor Jack Seiler cautioned residents about possible street flooding in coastal neighborhoods from the high tides that are expected from Oct. 24 through Oct. 31. In addition, he noted that boaters should check tides before leaving the dock, as high tides could cause lower clearance under bridges.

In a statement, Seiler’s office said that since 2011, the city has installed 59 tidal valves, which help keep back rising water. Forty-five more are planned for this fiscal year.

King tides occur when the Earth, moon and sun align. Areas in Miami and Fort Lauderdale were greatly impacted by the king tides that coincided with the supermoon in late September.
