The Best Spring Break Destination: Fort Lauderdale Remains Among America's Top 5
Fort Lauderdale may be past its spring break heyday, but hey, our beautiful beaches are still a great destination for a getaway, and travelers agree.
Our city was recently named among Americans' top 5 spring break destinations in the U.S. for 2017 by Allianz Global Assistance, coming in at No. 4 behind Orlando (1), Las Vegas (2) and Phoenix (3).
The specialty insurance company reviewed more than 4 million trips booked by its customers between Feb. 24 and April 9—the height of spring break season—and specifically focused on itineraries of five to eight days in length.
"The review showed a good mix of beach, skiing and well-known destinations attracting Americans for spring break this year," said Daniel Durazo, director of communications for Allianz Global Assistance USA, in a statement.
For spring breakers traveling internationally, Cancun came out on top (no surprise), followed by Cabo San Lucas, Mexico; San Juan, Puerto Rico; Punta Cana, Dominican Republic; and Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. London was the only European destination on the top 10 list.
Expect to see especially packed beaches here in Fort Lauderdale this and next week, with college students from the University of Florida, Florida State, and University of Central Florida all on spring break.
