Fort Lauderdale plans massive wedding ceremony for same-sex couples
As soon as Jan. 6, same-sex marriages are expected to be legal in Florida. With that, the Greater Fort Lauderdale Convention and Visitors Bureau plans to have a massive gay wedding celebration on the beach for at least 100 couples in February.
The beachside wedding event is just the first of many gay-marriage activities planned in Broward to promote gay tourism. So far, Fort Lauderdale has been ranked consistently among the top U.S. destinations for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender travelers.
Same-sex marriage licenses will be granted starting at 12:01 a.m. Tuesday. For couples too eager to wait for the February beach ceremony, Broward Clerk's main office will also be having a mass wedding at 3 a.m. on Tuesday.
