Fort Lauderdale Ranks (Really) Low On Best Cities For Families List. We Want A Recount.
We’re not sure how the paradise that is Fort Lauderdale wound up at the bottom of this list, but according to finance social network WalletHub, Fort Lauderdale is one of the worst cities for families.
Fort Lauderdale ranked 143 out of 150 cities in WalletHub’s ranking of the best cities for families. It did, however, fare slightly better than Miami, which placed 147.
According to the ranking, the five best cities for families are: Overland Park, Kansas; Plano, Texas; Virginia Beach, Virginia; Lincoln, Nebraska; and Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
To create the ranking, WalletHub evaluated the 150 most populated U.S. cities on five factors: family activities and fun, health and safety, education and childcare, affordability, and socioeconomic environment.
Among those, Fort Lauderdale fared best in education and childcare. The city’s lowest score was in family activities and fun. The city also ranked among the cities with the fewest families with kids.
On the bright side, the city of Pembroke Pines ranked 51 on the list, beating out other Florida cities, including Cape Coral (58), Port St. Lucie (70), Jacksonville (80), Tampa (86) and St. Petersburg (87).
