Free Electric Rides May be coming to Downtown Boca Raton
The Delray Downtowner, a popular service providing free rides in downtown Delray Beach since 2012, is considering expanding its business to downtown Boca Raton.
This growing service provides passengers with free rides in an electric cart across a two-mile radius in the downtown Delray area. To call a cart, customers can either call its number or use the Delray Downtowner iPhone app.
Stephen Murray, one of the Delray Downtowner owners explains that Boca may be the perfect place to expand their business because of the area’s oncoming explosion of residents mixed with the positive interest received from advertisers.
On Monday, while Murray was met with great enthusiasm from Boca Raton City Council members about the expansion, the city’s administration is not yet on board with the idea.
City manager, Leif Ahnell explained to the Sun-Sentinel, "This sounds like a vehicle for hire and we have our own regulations in the city."
If this expansion goes through, Boca's version of the Downtowner would travel as far east as the beach to just west of Dixie Highway. Then it would go as far south as Camino Real and as far north as 20th Street.
