Hardy Park Bistro Is Hosting An Australian Wine Pairing Dinner As A Nod To Chef Philip Darmon's Homeland, And Kangaroo Is On The Menu
Hardy Park Bistro chef Philip Darmon is honoring his homeland of Australia with an Aussie-style wine pairing dinner that'll offer some surprising ingredients from the land down under.
Called The Corroboree—an Australian slang term for a party or social gathering—the five-course dinner at Hardy Park Bistro will take place on Monday, Sept. 26, featuring dishes such as kangaroo imported from Australia (yes, kangaroo) and traditional barramundi fish, as well as Australian truffles and spices like lemon myrtle and wattleseed. These delicacies will be paired with Australian wines from Stacole.
"Although Hardy Park is inspired by a global palate, we rarely get to feature Australian dishes, because the ingredients are not easy to come by," Darmon said in a statement. "We're thrilled to be able to bring a taste of Australia to our regulars and introduce them to new flavors and experiences."
The Sydney native decided to host the Aussie-style get-together to celebrate the start of season, and Darmon thought using his homeland as the source of inspiration would be fitting.
So what are guests in for if they're newcomers to kangaroo? Although, even in Australia, people don't typically eat the country's most beloved marsupial, kangaroo meat has been praised by Aussie chefs for being an environmentally friendly alternative to beef and pork, BBC News reports. The meat can also be quite healthy and exceptionally tender.
Hardy Park Bistro is usually closed on Mondays, but it will open for the limited-seating event to guests who've RSVP'd to the event. Tickets are $75 and can be reserved by calling 954.652.1475.
