I Heart Mac And Cheese Now Open In Fort Lauderdale, Serving Taco Mac, Bacon Cheeseburger Mac And More
Crazy clever mac and cheese concoctions have arrived in Fort Lauderdale.
I Heart Mac and Cheese, a new fast-casual restaurant that lets customers put their own spin on the comfort food classic, opened its doors Monday, April 18.
The store—located on 17th Street —is open Sunday through Thursday 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. and has extended hours Friday and Saturday, staying open until 11 p.m.
Guests can order customizable mac and cheese bowls with gourmet toppings, like artisan cheeses, lobster, short rib, truffle oil and more. Vegan cheese and meat-free toppings are available; wheat-free and gluten-free pasta varieties are also offered.
A few specialty bowls will also be on the menu each week. Options include the Cuban pulled pork mac and cheese—made with fontina, provolone and Swiss cheeses and topped with pickles and bacon—and the Philly cheese steak mac and cheese, served with white and yellow cheddar, provolone, caramelized onions and pretzels.
What's more, I Heart Mac and Cheese offers salad and baked potato bars, plus cookie dough cones for dessert. That's right, raw cookie dough—eggless and edible—is served in ice cream cones and topped with M&M's, Oreo cookies, marshmallows and more.
It all sounds like something from the mind of a child, but the man behind the concept is chef Michael Blum. He owned the nationally recognized Michael's Kitchen in Hollywood, which closed in 2007, and helped open The Tipsy Boar, also in Hollywood, where his Maine lobster mac and cheese earned recognition as the area's best.
For the adults, the restaurant will serve wines and Funky Buddha beers on tap. Guests can also enjoy cold brew coffee, fresh-squeezed lemonade, iced tea and Arnold Palmers served with flavored ice cubes (coffee, lemonade and tea), so drinks won't get watered down.
