Inaugural Pride Of The Americas Festival Will Be Held In Fort Lauderdale
Recently announced at the International Gay & Lesbian Travel Association (IGLTA) annual conference in Toronto, the first-ever Pride of the America Festival will be held in Fort Lauderdale in 2020.
The 10-day festival will focus on LGBT issues and is expected to attract more than 350,000 visitors. It will be hosted by Pride Fort Lauderdale and presented by the Greater Fort Lauderdale Convention & Visitors Bureau.
The event will include a parade, a beach party, an arts festival, social events throughout Fort Lauderdale and a human rights conference focused on LGBT rights.
The conference will focus mainly on the issues LGBT individuals face in Latin America and the Caribbean in hopes of bringing attention to the inequalities the community faces in those areas of the world.
Fort Lauderdale was chosen to host the conference because the city has hundreds of businesses owned and operated by LGBT community members, and the city has the highest concentration of same-sex couple households in the country.
The city is also home to one of the largest pride centers in the country and the global headquarters of the International Gay & Lesbian Travel Association.
