Lance Bass to Serve as Ambassador in Fort Lauderdale LGBT Mass Wedding
On Feb. 5, former NSYNC member, Lance Bass will be attending the Greater Fort Lauderdale Convention and Visitors Bureau’s "Love is Love" mass wedding celebration.
The sunrise beach wedding and vow renewal ceremony is set to begin at 7 a.m. and include approximately 100 LGBT and straight couples from 18 different states as well as from London, Italy and South America.
The event along Fort Lauderdale beach aims to commemorate marriage equality in Florida after the state’s legalization of same-sex unions on Jan. 6.
The event also coincides with the airing of Bass’ own wedding broadcasting on E! network in a special titled, "Lance Loves Michael: The Lance Bass Wedding." The program will make television history as being the first American broadcast of a celebrity same-sex marriage.
Bass, who married long-time partner, Michael Turchin on Dec. 20 will welcome couples on the beach and share his own thoughts on the significance of marriage equality as well as what the event means to him.
The ceremony will be officiated by Rev. Dr. Durrell Watkins of the Sunshine Cathedral. Following the ceremony, the W Fort Lauderdale hotel will host a Champagne toast and reception.
"Lance shares the same pioneering spirit of advocating for LGBT equality that we embody here in Greater Fort Lauderdale," Nicki E Grossman, the tourism bureau's president and CEO, said in a statement. "We're thrilled to have him be part of our historic moment on the same day he shares his own personal wedding with the world."
