Mai-Kai Restaurant Shimmies Onto List Of Best Places To Order Umbrella Drinks
Everyone could use an island vacation, but when a tropical getaway isn’t in the cards, tiki bars offer a great alternative.
Fort Lauderdale’s Mai-Kai Restaurant recently made USA Today’s list of “10 best bars to order umbrella drinks.” Spirits author Niki Ganong relayed her picks to the publication, explaining that Mai-Kai’s history as a local landmark factored into her recommendation.
“I love that the old-school places are still able to bring them in,” Ganong said of the restaurant, which was founded in 1956.
Along with its whimsical island decor and countless “umbrella drink” options, Mai-Kai is also known for its Polynesian Islander revue that highlights the culture and heritage of Polynesia with song and dance. The restaurant, which was recently featured on Food Network’s “Craziest Restaurants in America,” was named to the National Register of Historic Places earlier this year.
One other tiki bar in Florida made USA Today's list: Trader Sam’s Grog Grotto at the Disney World Resort in Lake Buena Vista.
