Manatee Rescued From New River Pump in Downtown Fort Lauderdale

A female manatee has been taken to the Miami Seaquarium for evaluation after being rescued from a pump station near the New River in downtown Fort Lauderdale.

Rescue workers and wildlife officials reported to 100 N. New River Drive, where they used a crane to help lift the trapped animal to safety Tuesday, according to reports. Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue tweeted pictures of the effort:

 

The animal appears to have a few scrapes, but officials told the Sun Sentinel recovery should be pretty quick
