Max's Grille Chef Patrick Broadhead Creates 'Boca Benedict' For Thomas' Hometown Breakfast Battle
One Boca chef is hoping he's created America's best breakfast dish, and you can try it at Max's Grille during National Breakfast Month in September.
Max's Grille executive chef Patrick Broadhead is one of 135 chefs across 135 U.S. cities competing in the Hometown Breakfast Battle, in which participants must come up with a unique recipe using Thomas' English muffins or bagels. The contest is being held for the 135th anniversary of the brand. (Yep, the company's been around since 1880.)
Beginning Sept. 14, voters can go to ThomasBreakfastBattle.com and choose their favorite breakfast recipes. Only the top 16 chefs will make it to the next round of competition.
Chef Broadhead's best breakfast creation is a Boca benedict on a Thomas' English muffin, featuring smoked salmon, applewood-smoked bacon and crushed avocado. It's also topped with arugula, an heirloom tomato slice and, of course, a poached egg.
"Smoked salmon is a very popular item in Boca, so it made sense to go with that," Broadhead said.
The Boca Benedict will be available at Max's Grille for brunch on weekends beginning Sept. 12 and lasting until the end of the month. After that, it will appear on the menu periodically as a special.
And in case you were wondering, yes, Broadhead is a fan of Thomas' products.
"We only use Thomas' English muffins at home," he said. "I have them in my freezer at home right now."
Voters will be entered to win a $10,000 grand prize and can also instantly win free Thomas' products, so be sure to get voting.
Here's to hoping Boca soon becomes the home of the nation's Breakfast Battle grand champion.
