Miami-Based SuViche Restaurant Coming To Las Olas, Giving Downtown Fort Lauderdale A Taste Of Japanese-Peruvian Fusion

Miami's favorite Japanese and Peruvian fusion restaurant, SuViche, is coming to Las Olas this summer.

Known for its light and affordable fare, the fast-casual chain already has three locations in Miami-Dade County: in Brickell, Miami Beach and Wynwood. SuViche's newest outpost will be the Bank of America Plaza at Las Olas City Centre. The establishment will fit 150 guests and offer outdoor seating on its covered patio.

Co-owner Aliosha Stern told Fort Lauderdale Daily he's aiming for a mid-to-late July opening. He noted that it's a big step to take the Peruvian fusion restaurant north of Miami-Dade County, which is about 65 percent Hispanic, 25 percent white American.

"Broward is the other way around, but we've been getting great feedback," Stern said.

Stern thinks the innovative concept will still work in Fort Lauderdale because SuViche makes Peruvian food very approachable. Plus, he expects locals to enjoy the "casual but trendy environment."

Sushi ($7 to $14.50 per roll, or $4 to $6.75 per half-roll) and ceviche ($11.95) are the menu's main attractions. But other specialties, like the saltado (chicken, steak or seafood sauteed with onions, tomatoes and Lomo Sauce) and arroz chaufa (a Peruvian version of fried rice), are not to be missed.

Much like the Wynwood location, the Fort Lauderdale restaurant will also include a pisco bar serving up more than 15 kinds of cocktails, from pisco sours to homemade piscos with infused flavors. (For anyone unfamiliar with the South American spirit, pisco is a type of brandy produced in Peru and Chile's winemaking regions.)

SuViche offers online ordering, and the Fort Lauderdale spot will begin delivering to the surrounding area a couple of weeks after its opening, Stern said. The restaurant even allows online group ordering, which makes a collective lunch order to the office that much easier.

SuViche will keep its Sushi Tuesday tradition by featuring buy one, get one half off deals on sushi rolls. They'll also serve two-for-one drinks and cheap bites during happy hour from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. every day.

UPDATE: Aug 25 — The SuViche location in Las Olas has opened its doors for business. The eatery made the announcement on Facebook Aug. 24.
