Naked Man Stuck On Fort Lauderdale Drawbridge Lowered to Safety
A man who got stuck on a raised drawbridge in downtown Fort Lauderdale Friday, May 22, made it down safely, thanks to the help of rescue workers.
The incident began before 10 a.m., shortly after which responders began attempts to get the man, who wasn’t wearing any clothes, down from the Florida East Coast Railway.
One witness told the Sun Sentinel the man was crossing the bridge after swimming in the New River. The bridge starting coming up before he was able to make his way across it. The paper notes he may have been bathing.
WPLG Local 10 reports rescue workers couldn’t reach the man with their ladders, so a Broward Sheriff's Office rescue team member continued the climb and then secured the subject with a harness. The bridge was then lowered.
Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue tweeted updates as workers tried to get the man down. Images show the man, now wearing what appears to be a white towel, interacting with responders.
