New Ferry to Run Between Fort Lauderdale and Grand Bahama
The 1,000-passanger ferry named Bahama Mama has replaced Pinar del Rio, a 463-passenger catamaran that had been making trips back and forth from the two ports for the past three years.
The fare for a day trip ranges from $126 to $251, and while Bahama Mama has cabins, they’re available for comfort on the trip rather than overnight accommodations.
The new ferry also has a pool, casino, restaurant, bars, entertainment and plenty of other amenities guests can enjoy.
Operated by Balearia Ferry Express, a Spanish company, the ferry hopes to add trips to Nassau later this year.
With day trips, the ship leaves Fort Lauderdale at 8 a.m., embarking on a three-hour cruise to Grand Bahama. The ship then departs Freeport at 7 p.m., arriving back in Florida around 10 p.m.
