Nick Cannon Is This Year's Winterfest Boat Parade Grand Marshal, Because Fort Lauderdale's Got Talent
Actor, rapper and comedian Nick Cannon will be the 2015 Winterfest Boat Parade grand marshal when the holiday festival returns to Fort Lauderdale on Dec. 12.
The internationally recognized event features private boats and corporate mega yachts adorned in hundreds of thousands of lights as they parade through Fort Lauderdale's waterways. Decorated to the theme of "Fairy Tales Afloat," this year's vessels will sail 12 miles, from the New River east to the Intracoastal Waterway, and up to Lake Santa Barbara in Pompano.
Cannon, who was announced as the grand marshal Monday afternoon, will be honored at the invitation-only Grand Marshal Experience held at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Hollywood on Dec. 11. At this reception featuring local dignitaries, VIPs and sponsors, Cannon will receive a key to the city and a brick with his name on the Riverwalk Celebrity Walk of Fame.
The current "America's Got Talent" host will join a number of other celebrities who have led the parade in the past, including Flo Rida, Kim Kardashian, Alonzo Mourning, Shaquille O'Neal and Frankie Valli.
Captain Lee from Bravo's hit series "Below Deck" will also be this year's special celebrity guest at the Winterfest Boat Parade.
More than a million spectators are expected to turnout for the free parade, which begins at 6:30 p.m. Those who want the best view, however, can pay $25 for seats in the Grandstand Viewing Area at Birch State Park and enjoy interactive games for the whole family, such as rock climbing and slap shot hockey.
Boat entries are now being accepted at a cost of $35 per vessel. For the full schedule of Winterfest events, visit winterfestparade.com/events.
