Watch As Local Celebs Rappel Down The Sonesta Fort Lauderdale Beach, Or Join Them At This Gilda's Club South Florida Fundraiser

If you see people climbing over the edge of a Fort Lauderdale beach hotel next weekend, don't be alarmed.

Local celebrities and other individuals will rappel 13 stories down the side of the Sonesta Fort Lauderdale Beach on Saturday, March 12, to help raise funds for Gilda's Club South Florida, a cancer support community and charity.

Last year, more than 60 participants rappelled down the tallest office building in downtown Fort Lauderdale, the 30-story 110 Tower, as part of the annual Over the Edge fundraiser. They raised $100,000 in support of Gilda's Club.

This year, confirmed VIP guests who will be rappelling down the Sonesta include Broward County Mayor Marty Kiar, Jeff Martin of 101.5 Lite FM, Melissa Rodriguez of Mega 94.9, Drew Heyman of Y100, Craig Setzer of CBS 4, "Deco Drive" reporter Chris Van Vliet, and NBC 6 on-air talent Erika Delgado, Eric Harryman, Sheli Muniz and Kelly Blanco.

But the opportunity is open to more than local celebrities. Anyone who raises a minimum of $1,000 has the chance to go over the edge of the Sonesta, with the Atlantic Ocean as the view down below. The first 90 people to do so will earn a spot.

Those who are "too chicken" to go over the edge but still want to support the cause can watch from the ground (aka the "Chicken Coop") while collecting pledges through their own fundraising pages.

The event begins at 8:30 a.m. Spectators can valet at Sonesta Fort Lauderdale Beach and enjoy the view directly in front of the hotel, or look on from the beach.

Here are a few photos of participants rappelling in past years:
