Publix, 2 Broward Companies Named Among Fortune's 100 Best Workplaces For Millennials
South Florida's millennials can stop searching high and low for the perfect employer. According to Fortune Magazine, some of the best companies to work for can be found in our own backyard.
Two Broward County companies—Ultimate Software and JM Family Enterprises—were named to the publication's second annual ranking of the 100 Best Workplaces for Millennials.
In total, four Florida organizations made the list, including every Floridian's favorite grocery store, Publix.
To come up with the ranking, Fortune Magazine tapped survey site Great Place to Work to ask more than 88,000 millennials (generally defined as adults born between 1981 and 1997) to rate their companies based on 58 workplace quality factors. These included sincerity of managers’ support for personal and professional lives, meaning they get from the job, and more. To be eligible for the ranking, each company had to have at least 50 millennial employees.
Listed at No. 5, Florida’s highest ranked company was Weston-based Ultimate Software, which specializes in online internet services. Millennials may make up 26 percent of the IT company, but Ultimate Software is Generation X-friendly too. The company also appears at No. 5 on Fortune’s list of the 20 Best Workplaces for Gen X’ers.
Automotive company JM Family Enterprises, based in Deerfield Beach, earned the No. 45 spot on the list. Founded in 1968 by Jim Moran, the organization employs nearly 900 millennials, according to Great Place to Work.
The automotive company provides employee benefits such as work-life balance programs and on-site health benefits like flu shots, health screenings and a fitness center. JM Family Enterprises is also ranked at No. 15 on Fortune’s list of the 20 Best Workplaces for Baby Boomers.
Lakeland-based corporation Publix Super Markets came in at No. 74. The company offers compensation programs, such as 401(k) plans, stock purchase and stock ownership plans, to its employees—53 percent of whom are millennials.
Finally, on Florida's West Coast, Arthrex was ranked No. 28. Headquartered in Naples, the organization specializes in manufacturing and production of medical devices and employs 685 millennials.
