The Restaurant People Look To Open TRP Taste, A Culinary Events Space, In Fort Lauderdale Summer 2017
UPDATE (March 23, 2017): The Restaurant People plan to open TRP Taste, a culinary events space inside the One West Las Olas office building, this June, with construction set to begin in April. The group also hopes for Rooftop, a new rooftop bar and restaurant on the eighth floor of the building, to debut around the same time.
The Fort Lauderdale hospitality team behind YOLO, Boatyard and S3 Restaurant will be introducing its latest eatery this fall.
Don't expect it to be another traditional restaurant, however.
TRP Taste, the name of The Restaurant People's latest concept, will be more of a food events venue than a restaurant. Expected to open in October or November, the space will host intimate dinners with guest chefs from across the state and country. It will also serve as a test kitchen for new menu items and concepts.
For example, when one of the group's existing restaurants plans to roll out a new menu, or even if TRP plans to introduce a new restaurant concept, the group would offer a taste testing dinner to the first 25 people that respond to the opportunity on social media.
"People want new things and want new experiences," TRP co-founder Tim Petrillo said. "This is not a certain type of restaurant. You may not get the same meal twice."
The space will be opening up in the One West Las Olas office building in downtown Fort Lauderdale, where The Restaurant People is also opening a rooftop lounge on the eighth floor.
During the "pop-up chef" dinners at TRP Taste, guests can watch how the food is prepared and interact with the invited chef while he or she is cooking. Ticket prices will vary by night, depending on what the chefs are making.
"We may have a great sushi chef come in, may have somebody that does killer Thai, might do a pastry tasting," Petrillo said. "It's about foods and cuisines of all kinds."
The idea was inspired by chefs who have often expressed interest in coming down to South Florida to host partnered dinners with The Restaurant People's eateries.
"We thought, 'What if we had a restaurant that was built around just having a very flexible schedule?'" Petrillo said.
TRP Taste will not be open nightly, but rather on an as-needed basis, depending on when events are happening.
In addition to the ticketed pop-up dinners, TRP Taste might also offer cooking classes and serve as a private events space for group culinary events, Petrillo said. The venue fits 20 to 25 people.
"What we want to do is build a community around the culinary aspect of this," he said.
