Sanibel Crowned Best Vacation Spot For Families
St. Augustine also makes top 10 list at No. 8.
The official start of summer is June 21, but it’s never too soon to start planning for a vacation with the kiddos. (After all, school will be out before we know it.) Lucky for us, two of FamilyFun’s top 10 vacation spots are practically in our backyard.
The magazine named Sanibel (No. 1) and St. Augustine (No. 8) among the best places in the nation to spend quality time with those most important to us. And since we included both towns in our guide to weekend Florida road trips, you know we’re totally down with what these gorgeous destinations have to offer.
While Sanibel pretty much dominated the awards (it was also named top tourist town and the regional favorite), a bunch of best-loved Florida locations also received shout-outs: The publication’s travel awards also featured a list of the top 10 state parks (oh, hey, John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park), as well as top animal attractions (yep, Busch Gardens Tampa is on there), science museums (Kennedy Space Center visitor complex), and tourist towns (Sanibel, St. Augustine and Key West, of course).
The awards originally appeared in the publication’s April 2015 issue. Two-thousand families that travel with kids between the ages of 3 and 12 were asked to rate 464 destinations in five categories. “With the exception of casual restaurant chains, respondents rated only nominees within their own region (Northeast, South, Midwest or West),” FamilyFun explained.
