The Sun Trolley Is Coming To Lauderdale-By-The-Sea Just In Time For The Holidays
Catching a ride from Fort Lauderdale to Lauderdale-By-The-Sea just got a whole lot easier.
Residents and tourists who ride the Sun Trolley's Galt Link route will soon be able to head as far north as Washingtonia Avenue in the town known as the Beach Diving Capital of South Florida. Service will start Dec. 1, just ahead of the annual Christmas By The Sea tree lighting and holiday event on Dec. 2.
The route extension for the red and yellow trolleys received approval from the Fort Lauderdale City Commission on Nov. 17. The new stops are expected to make it easier for residents and tourists to travel between the two locales (without having to worry about parking) and explore new parts of town.
"[They] will be able to enjoy world-class shopping, sparkling beaches and outdoor recreational activities that both destinations offer; the business community will experience opportunities for economic development; and the walkability and livability in both the City of Fort Lauderdale and the Town of Lauderdale-By-The-Sea will be enhanced," Sun Trolley representative Robyn Chiarelli said in a release.
The Galt Link travels to The Galleria mall, Coral Ridge Mall, the Broward County Library, and restaurants and shops near Anglin's Fishing Pier. Service is available from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. every day except Thursdays and Sundays.
The Sun Trolley provides free service on all but two routes—Las Olas and Beach Link—which cost $1 per ride.
