Water Shuttle Launches In Fort Lauderdale, Offering Hop-On, Hop-Off Service On Flamingo-Pink Boats

Fort Lauderdale's waterways just got a little more colorful.

A new water transportation service called Water Shuttle has been cruising the Intracoastal with pink boats. Launched in April, the service runs daily—rain or shine—from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.

These hop-on, hop-off boats are a new offering from Marine Hospitality, which has provided charter-type services in Fort Lauderdale for more than 25 years. The company also operates a fleet of luxury yachts, sightseeing boats through Riverfront Cruises, and the Liberty Belle paddlewheel riverboat.

The bubble gum-colored boats are topped with small plastic pink flamingos to evoke an old Florida feel, and guests are welcomed on board with pink lemonade. U.S. Coast Guard-certified boat captains and tour guides offer humor and history throughout the ride.

"For tourists, it's a fun and unique experience," Marine Hospitality owner James Campbell said. "For locals, who live or work in the downtown, they don't want to deal with increasing traffic and road congestion."

Water Shuttle makes eight stops—including Beach Place, Broward Center for the Performing Arts, the Historic Stranahan House, and Bahia Mar—with one additional whistle stop, meaning passengers have the option of requesting that the stop be made. The whole route takes about 2.5 hours.

Though Water Shuttle offers similar services as Water Taxi, Campbell noted there's always a need for transportation alternatives in Fort Lauderdale.

"I only see opportunity to create and sustain successful businesses that provide car-free options for both locals and tourists to get around and experience our beautiful city," he said.

And with its late springtime launch, timed as South Florida heads into its off-season, the company expects it will have enough time to perfect Water Shuttle's operations going into the 2016-2017 high season.

Tickets are $20 per day, $18 for seniors and military personnel, and $10 for children under 12. Water Shuttle will also be offering a "Summer Madness" special for buy one, get one free tickets throughout the month of June. They can be purchased at water-shuttle.com, at the Water Shuttle Fort Lauderdale kiosk at Riverwalk, or onboard at any of the stops.

Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood Water Taxi is also offering a savings program for the summer. Now through Sept. 30, guests can purchase an all-day pass for either the Hollywood local route or express service between Fort Lauderdale and Hollywood (which also includes access to the Hollywood stops and can be used on Fort Lauderdale routes after 5 p.m.) for $16.
