When Tunie's Grocery Store Opens In Fort Lauderdale In July, Everything Will Be On Sale
If you’ve ever felt unsure about eating organic, or simply uneasy about the price tag it carries, a local grocery chain is looking to change that.
Organic grocery store Tunie’s will be opening its third location—and the first in Fort Lauderdale—on July 25.
Opening day will mark the start of a massive weeklong sale you won’t want to miss: Everything in the store is buy two, get one free.
That's right. Everything.
Owner Taylor Hamilton said that his goal is to “level the playing field” so that lower-income families can afford to buy healthy foods and live a healthy lifestyle. He also said he wants the prices to compete with those of Publix and Wal-Mart.
“We want to give them the best value possible,” Hamilton said.
While Tunie’s competes with Whole Foods by offering lower prices, it also edges out other grocers by offering a huge variety; the affordable Trader Joe’s chain sells mostly its in-house brand.
Tunie’s carries all the national brands that organic grocery shoppers are familiar with, amounting to between 25,000 and 30,000 products in its stores.
The Fort Lauderdale grocery store will be Tunie's largest. The Palm Beach Gardens and Coral Springs locations are between 12,000 and 15,000 square feet, while the Fort Lauderdale store will be 20,000 square feet.
All of Tunie’s usual in-store features—including an organic juice bar, organic salad bar, on-site nutritionist and educational health seminars—can be found in the new location.
But in the new store you may also notice a full-sized industrial kitchen preparing healthy, ready-to-eat meals for purchase. These meals will be delivered from Fort Lauderdale to the other two Tunie’s locations to be sold at those stores as well.
With the opening of the Fort Lauderdale location, Tunie’s will launch its “Tunie’s Makes Cents” fundraising initiative, which will allow customers of all Tunie's stores to donate to any of four local charities when they shop.
