Kalla Floral Couture

These decadent, designer arrangements put grocery store flowers to shame. Kalla, a floral couture company that launched in South Florida in March, is reinventing and redefining the generic flower business. Designer Addie Flynn gives us a behind-the-scenes look at how the striking Kalla flowers come to life.

Minimalism

Flynn builds each arrangement using just three elements. She starts with the flower, often a garden rose or orchid, and then balances the bold blooms using ferns and other simple plants like lily grass. “It lets everything shine,” Flynn says.

Bold, beautiful vases

Flynn juxtaposes the dainty flowers with geometric print vases in patterns like houndstooth and chevron. The designer says she wanted the vases to be as beautiful as the flowers.

The whole package

Kalla prides itself on same-day, white-glove delivery service. The flowers, which arrive in a large, geometric-printed black and white box, can also be delivered with wine and chocolates for an extra fee. Each arrangement comes with a “story card,” which explains the creative inspiration for the blooms. It’s easy to get carried away with flower names like “Anna & Vaslav” and “Bea & The Lady.”

Flowers aren’t just for Valentine’s Day

Flynn built the brand around “women-to-women” gifting. “I make arrangements that you would want to send to your girlfriend,” the designer says. The arrangements arrive in full-bloom and are guaranteed to stay fresh for five days – some last as long as 10 days after delivery. Arrangements start at $95.
