Several HANDY scholarship recipients, who have overcome abuse and neglect to graduate from college during the last 12 months, will be recognized during HANDY’s 10th Annual Scholars Breakfast sponsored by Shutts & Bowen LLP and generously underwritten by the Hyatt Regency Pier Sixty-Six.
This milestone fundraiser will take place on , in the Crystal Ballroom of the Hyatt Regency Pier Sixty-Six. The festivities will kick-off at with a coffee reception and silent auction, followed by a seated breakfast from
“When HANDY launched its Scholars Breakfast 10 years ago, we had just one student graduating from college,” said Evan Goldman, CEO of HANDY. “This year’s event, which coincides with our 30th year of service, will recognize 13 incredible students, as well as business and community leaders whose support has been invaluable in continuing HANDY’s mission of embracing, engaging and empowering vulnerable youth.”
This event will also honor the 2015 Champions of Children; Kathryn and Roy Krause, community leaders, Superintendent Robert W. Runcie, Broward County Public Schools and Chad Moss, executive vice president of Moss & Associates. These individuals’ interest, vision and generous support have significantly contributed to HANDY’s continued success.
Kathryn and Roy Krause support youth advocacy and education through HANDY, Junior Achievement and the Broward County Guardian ad Litem Program. Roy serves as a board member for the American Red Cross Broward County Chapter and is a member of the Broward Alliance CEO Council and the Broward Workshop. Kathryn is a HANDY board member. The Krause Family Foundation has also made a significant donation to support nursing and health sciences programs at Broward College.
Superintendent Robert W. Runcie is actively involved with the community and serves on several organizational boards, including Code.org, Council of the Great City Schools, United Way of Broward County, Urban League of Broward County, Children Services Council of Broward County, Greater Fort Lauderdale Alliance and the Florida Association of District School Superintendents.
Chad Moss is an active member on the Foundation Board of Directors at FIU, Construction Association of South Florida, the Associated Builders and Contractors and is also a HANDY board member. A strong community advocate, Chad drives many of the company’s charitable initiatives, including the recently completed HANDY building and recreation room.
