July 01 - July 25
RedEye Returns to ArtServe July 25, 2015
On Saturday night, July 25th, ArtServe will again transform for RedEye—a multi-disciplinary feast for the senses. This annual art happening was first presented by ArtServe in 2006. Since then, it has grown into one of the Fort Lauderdale’s most popular summer events, bringing in a crowd last year of nearly two thousand attendees for the one-night extravaganza.
Now in its 10th year, RedEye is going to be literally “brand” new. Joining our local rock star artists is pioneering New York City graphic designer and founding creative director of Def Jam Recordings, Cey Adams, who will bring his new “Trusted Brands” series to RedEye. Adams, who was featured in Style Wars, the definitive PBS documentary on the topic, is a seminal figure in the birth of an art, cultural and political movement that currently reigns supreme worldwide and for which RedEye was originally started.
Artwork on exhibit will celebrate the interconnected artistic cultures of graffiti, street art, sticker art, pop art, branding, logos, typography, digital art, comic art and performance. If you like art with an edge, this is the exhibition you’ve been waiting for.
Of course, RedEye is not just an art exhibit but a Warholian art happening featuring live art, bands, DJs, food trucks, feature films and much more than ever before. This year, two feature film documentaries will be presented throughout the evening and seeing just one of them is worth the price of admission. Showing in the Classical South Florida Hall will be Coming Home: Cuba, a hip-hop documentary by Miami rapper Garcia and DJ EFN, and Jean-Michel Basquiat: The Radiant Child by Tamra Davis. RedEye featured artist Cey Adams, a contemporary of Basquiat, will provide personal commentary on both films.
RedEye is a fundraising event for ArtServe, celebrating its 25th anniversary as Broward County’s premier nonprofit arts service organization. Its mission is to help aspiring artists of all disciplines turn their passion for art into sustainable businesses.
Saturday, July 25 from 6-10pm. RedEye tickets are $10 online, $15 at the door. A limited number of special VIP experience tickets are also available for $75 (online purchase only). ArtServe, 1350 E. Sunrise Blvd., Fort Lauderdale. For more information, visit www.artserve.org or call (954) 462-8190.
