New Boca Restaurant Serves American Cuisine With a Latin Twist
If you’ve wondered what happened to the charming spot in Boca that once served up steaks and fondue, the answer lies with owner Ricky Marcellini. “We have watched east Boca grow and change over the years, and we wanted to evolve our restaurant to match the tastes and lifestyles in the area, which is why we closed our doors as The Little Chalet and have reopened as The Locale,” Marcellini explains.
Today, the corner spot on Federal Highway is serving up New American cuisine with a Latin twist. The vision is thanks to Ecuadorian-born chef Joshua Miranda who is at the forefront of the culinary transition.
Guests can order octopus tostones (green plantains topped with avocado and octopus ceviche); a grilled portobello burger bathed in a tamarind glaze; and sliced picanha steak with Brazilian farofa and chimichurri sauce. The restaurant even offers Brazilian-style, wood-fired pizzas. Go for the Especiale, where poached pear, bacon, gorgonzola, toasted almonds and arugula blend together nicely.
Between bites, sip something created by mixologist Esteff Lopes. The Locale’s signature is the Sage Blood Margarita, but with happy hour offered every day from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., choosing a local beer on tap is a wise choice as well. Miranda says it’s the coldest beer in South Florida—served at 32 F or below—paying homage to South America, “Where cold beer is an everyday custom.”
The Locale also serves up a non-traditional Latin-inspired Sunday brunch. For example, the Eggs Benedict is made with a plantains base and a yellow chili sauce, while the Broken Plantains bowl features smashed fried plantains with eggs, cheese, cilantro and scallions.
Don’t miss out on entertainment offered five nights a week, like DJs and live Brazilian bands covering hits from the ’80s.
